Friday Morning

Uncopyrighted photo- not taken by me

I would like to write
more poetry
But I fear I am neither
very talented,
nor
very sure.
I cannot find words
stark and beautiful enough
to describe the simple splendor
of a pale brown
she-cardinal
Beak aflame
Hunting for berries
This low-grey winter morning.
Her very unassuming glory
Kindles embers of joy.

This reminds me of an exercise in 10th grade English that resulted in one of my best poems. We had a free write based on a picture. Two years later I took that free write, and turned it into a poem. It was one that was published in our literary magazine that year.

Yes, you can find the words, cause you just did. :)
